Lighthouse

April 4, 2025

Lighthouse, a leader in technology-enabled eDiscovery, compliance, and information governance services, has released its annual “Emerging Trends in Antitrust” report. This year’s report offers insights into M&A regulatory activity and an overview of private antitrust litigation in 2024, as well as expert insights into the regulatory landscape last year and predictions about what 2025 will bring.

“In 2024, the markets saw significant activity, major regulatory changes, and new technologies that fundamentally affected M&A—and our experts believe that 2025 will continue those trends,” said Nick Schreiner, Vice President, Client Success at Lighthouse. “With our latest ‘Emerging Trends in Antitrust’ report,’ we continue to provide unique insights into the broader markets, what Lighthouse has seen, and key insights into what to expect. We encourage everyone involved in M&A activity to explore our latest report.”

Among the report’s key insights:

● M&A activity rose significantly in 2024. While the federal government has not issued its final report for last year, preliminary data shows a notable increase in transactions under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act (HSR), with 2,079 HSR filings in 2024 compared to 1,805 in 2023.

● Last year also saw an apparent increase in private antitrust litigation. Of 1,441 class action lawsuits, antitrust settlements were the second highest at $8.41 billion.

● Lighthouse worked with clients on a significantly larger number of Second Requests in 2024 compared to 2023, as well as multiple high-profile private antitrust cases.

“Clients continue to turn to Lighthouse for their critically important Second Request work because of our purpose-built solutions and innovative use of AI to streamline these complex matters,” said Fernando Delgado, Sr. Director, AI & Analytics at Lighthouse. “And we remain committed to bringing the best mix of technology, processes, and expertise in 2025, regardless of how the landscape may change.”
